Under new FDA regulations, there are three catagories of frozen specimens and each has its own use and testing criteria under the the FDA guidelines and the internal requirements of the cryobank. They are:
1-Intimate partner: This is where the frozen specimens will/can only be used by the donors sexually intimate partner in reproductive use.
2-Directed Donor: This covers any donation made for use by any known non-intimate (third) party. This would include donating for a friend or acquaintance, or a brother, etc. If the donor is not the current intimate partner of the person using the sperm, and they know each others identity, then it is a directed donor situation.
3-Anonymous Donor: This category includes all anonymous sperm donors, such as the commercial donors that we offer through the sperm bank. This group has the most intensive and restrictive testing and FDA compliance.
|
Intimate Partner Required Testing for Banking with NW Andrology:
Client must
provide current lab results prior to actual time of storage:
NEGATIVE
HIV 1 & 2,
HEP-C,
HTLV 1 & 2
We will accept most all types of routine diagnostic testing results performed by CLIA licensed laboratory facilities for this category of frozen specimens.
|
Directed Donor Required Testing for Banking with NW Andrology:
Client must
provide current lab results ( within 7-14 days of specimen production) prior to actual time of storage:
NEGATIVE (minimal testing FDA required)
HIV 1 & 2,*
HEP-C,*
HTLV 1 & 2,*
HEP B SURFACE AND CORE*
RPR*
CMV IgG, IgM,*
N. GONNORHEA,
CHLAMYDIA
No quarantine period is required for directed donor specimens. FDA does not require directed donors to be disease free, but they must be tested and postive test results must accompany and shipment of the specimens. NWAC does require negative test results to accept specimens into long term storage.
*This testing must be performed by an FDA, and CLIA licensed laboratory that is running test kits that have been approved by the FDA for donor screening purpose only. Routine diagnostic testing in most local laboratories does not meet this requirement. Laboratories running donor screening for most blood and other tissue banks will be most familiar with this requirement and should be able to provide the needed testing.
|
Anonymous Donor minimum FDA regulated testing includes those tests found above for directed donors, but is more involved and includes a 180 day quarantine with retesting. Our testing of donors is detailed on our donor standards web page. |

paying more than this for storage at another bank, consider
moving your assets. |
