Fertility Preservation

We have a number of fertility preservation options available, whether you’re transitioning, want to delay having children, or need to store sperm, eggs or embryos before undergoing cancer-related or other medical treatments.

PERSONAL SPERM STORAGE
PERSONAL SPERM STORAGE

After receiving a referral from your physician, storing sperm generally involves 1-3 visits to our facility.

Our coordinator will guide you through the whole process.

You can view our fertility preservation fees here.

How It Works
1
1. Call to schedule an appointment

Please call our Spokane or Missoula location to schedule your consultation and initial semen-freezing appointment. We’re happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have. The initial one-hour appointment includes:

  • Professional consultation
  • Semen collection for analysis and freezing
  • Blood draw for infectious disease screening
2
2. Prepare for your appointment

You’ll need to provide blood, semen, and urine samples at your first appointment. The blood and urine samples are needed for infectious disease testing. Infectious disease testing must be done by an FDA-registered lab.

Please abstain from ejaculation for at least 48-72 hours (and no more than 5 days) prior to your appointment, in order to produce the highest quality specimen possible.

Sperm count can also be affected by stress, nutrition, amount of sleep, drug and alcohol use, and illness. Avoid anything that will cause the testicles to overheat such as hot tubs, hot showers, and long or daily bike rides.

Please bring a valid government-issued photo ID to your appointment.

3. Create a personal storage plan with your coordinator

We recommend speaking with your physician to confirm the best storage plan for you based upon the quality and volume of your specimen. Your coordinator will then help you create a personal storage plan. You may also want to schedule additional semen collection visits.

EGG & EMBRYO STORAGE
For more information, please contact us at 800-786-5251
Please note that NW Cryobank does not perform the procedures required to complete an egg retrieval . We are, however, a long-term storage solution for your eggs once retrieved and/or your embryos once created.
How It Works

If eggs were retrieved and frozen at your medical facility:
Your physician will retrieve, freeze, and ship your eggs to our facility for long-term storage in liquid nitrogen. We will work with you and your medical facility to coordinate your shipment. Once your eggs arrive, they will be kept secure in our specially designed tanks until you are ready to retrieve and use them.

If embryos were created at your medical facility:

We will work with your current medical facility to coordinate and schedule the shipping of your embryos to our facility. Once your embryos have been placed securely into a long term storage tank, you will receive written documentation that the transfer to our facility has been completed. Please note that an administrative embryo transfer fee is applicable (See fertility preservation fees for details).

Reasons for Embryo Storage
Infertility treatment can often result in more embryos than are needed at the time of production. Remaining embryos can be stored for future transfer and conception attempts.
Retrieving and fertilizing eggs (creating embryos) may allow for fertility preservation and more flexible future family planning.
Diminished ovarian reserve may be an indication for embryo storage. Some women choose to have their eggs fertilized and stored for use at a later time.
Embryos stored temporarily at a reproductive medicine clinic may need to be relocated for long-term storage.
TRANSITIONING CLIENTS
TRANSITIONING CLIENTS

We recommend that you discuss fertility preservation options with your physician before starting hormone replacement therapy (HRT).

If you’ve already started HRT, it’s still possible to freeze and bank specimens for storage; however, you’ll need to take a break from HRT.

You’ll need to work with a fertility clinic to do an egg retrieval. If you need donor sperm to create embryos, we offer a diverse selection of extensively screened sperm donors. After your eggs or embryos are frozen, you can transfer them to our location for long-term storage.
